St John’s is a growing church family that welcomes all. Our aim is to explore and grow in our faith individually and together in an open, prayerful and friendly way. We have a number of different services throughout the week and month that reflect our richly-diverse congregations. You are always assured of a warm and friendly welcome at St Johns.
Special Holy Communion with Organ Mass – Monday 29th September at 8:00pm
Our communion service for St Michael with be a special organ mass at 8:00pm. Derek Grover will play Francois Couperin’s Messe pour les Couvents with the sopranos of our Consort singing the plainsong. Some beautiful and interesting music in celebration of the feast.
Flowers for Harvest – Saturday 4th October
We will be decorating the church for Harvest on Saturday morning 4th October. In the Harvest service we shall be thinking about Gods Abundance and shall be using this as the theme for our floral displays. We are looking for people to help decorate our window sills, the church porch or arrange a pedestal. We have lots of ideas to illustrate the theme and would be happy to give any help needed. Please contact the Parish Office if you are able to help.
Sunday 5th October – Harvest Festival
At our 10.30am All Age service we shall be celebrating the abundance of God’s love and harvests. Donations of produce can be brought on the day and put around the altar. All donations will be then given to support the Sheffield Cathedral Archer Project. Why not invite a friend or member of your family along, or maybe bring your children and grandchildren along to join in? We will be collecting food (tins, pasta, rice etc) and toiletries.
Christian Aid Speaker – Thursday 9 October from 7.30pm (refreshments available from 7.00pm)
The Beacon at Broomhill has booked Voltaire Alfrerez from the Philippines to come to the Broomhill Methodist (S10 3BD). He will speak about Typhoon Haiyan, its effect on the Philippines and the work to rescue and rebuild. We would really like people to learn about him and his work. Come and Sing Mozart’s Requiem – Saturday 11th October -Rehearsal 2:30 – 5:00pm, Performance 6:00pm
Everyone is welcome to come and have a go at singing this wonderful music. We are hoping to fill the Church. Participants are asked to donate £6 which will include the loan of sheet music for the afternoon. This is a fund raising event for the choirs’ 2015 tour to Germany.
Sunday 19th October- Harvest Supper of Pie and Peas – 7.30pm in the Parish Centre
With one of Pete Chatterton’s famous quizzes. Tickets £5 and children £2. Spaces are limited so don’t miss out. Tickets available from Claire in the Parish Office.
Friday 31st October Memorial service – 7.30pm
This service of light & hope is to remember those who we continue to love but see no more.
Friday 7th November Service for Peace & Reconciliation – 8.00pm
To mark the beginning of our Remembrance weekend this service will include our choir singing the Faure Requiem and will also include poetry and readings from the 1st & 2nd World war.
Crotchets – New singing group for 4-7 year olds – Mondays (in term time) 4.15-5.00pm
Our new singing group for 4 to 7 year olds is in the Parish Centre Annexe (behind the main building). All children in the age range are welcome to participate in the fun songs and musical games, and parents are welcome to join in. For more information please contact Ian Roberts (07730 226874 or firstname.lastname@example.org). Those that can afford it are asked to give a donation of £2 per child per week to cover costs. Toddler & Baby Groups – Thursdays (in term time) from 10-11.30am
All children from birth to pre-school welcome. New children, parents and helpers always welcome. Safe, carpeted room which is great for babies and crawlers. £1.00 per child includes a drink and a biscuit for parent/carers and children. 50pmfor additional child. A great way for parents and children to meet friends.
Quavers – Fridays (in term time) from 10.30-11.30am
Quavers, a singing group for under 5s. Sing and enjoy music with your child in a relaxed and fun environment. We learn traditional nursery rhymes and action songs and play with instruments. No need to book, meet in the Parish Centre. £2.00 per family, refreshments included. Please contact the Parish Office for more information.
Lunch Club – each Wednesday in term time – from 12.15pm
We provide a hot meal (main course, dessert and tea/coffee), along with good company. There are places available at our Wednesday Lunch Club. If you would like to come along please do, all welcome – please ring the Parish Office on 2301199 to book. Transport can be arranged.
Our Parish community – what happens in our Parish Centre?
The Ranmoor Parish Centre is used by a wide variety of groups, meetings and celebrations. Information about the regular users and details about the facilities available at the Centre can be found on the Parish Centre website. Groups who regularly use the Centre include yoga, Pilates, art appreciation, local history, uniformed groups and singing for children and adults.
If you are considering setting up a group or looking for a new venue, then please get in touch.
As part of the Diocese of Sheffield’s Centenary celebration, they are running a photographic competition. Further information is available here, the closing date is 30 October 2014.
Bible Study – Wednesdays 12th, 19th & 26th November – 7.30-9.00pm
Revd Neil will be leading a Bible study during November at the Vicarage. Places are limited due to space so if you would like to be involved then please put your name on the sheet at the back of church.
Confirmation Course/Renewing baptismal vows
Revd Neil is planning to arrange later this year/beginning of 2015 a confirmation course for all who would like to learn more about the Christian faith and are considering going forward towards confirmation in the New Year. Or maybe you want to explore the possibility of renewing your baptismal vows? If you or maybe a member of your family might be interested please put your name on the sheet at the back of Church or speak to Revd Neil for more details.
