General Synod enables woman to become Bishops

In July the General Synod approved the Measure to enable women to be consecrated as bishops in the Church of England. At the same time the Synod approved some key principles to enable those who hold different views on these matters to live together within one Church and to work together in God’s mission.    Bishop Stephen’s letter is here.

Organ Recital – Monday 28 July

The Sheffield organist, Peter Heginbotham, is giving a recital on Monday 28 July.  The recital will include music by J S Bach, Cocher, Bonnet, Vierne, Cochereau, Lanquetuit, Saint-Saens and Henry Smart.  The perfect way to spend 45 minutes of a summers evening. As ever admission is free, and there will be a retiring collection for the Organ Fund.

Wednesday Lunch Club

The lunch club has now stopped for a summer break until the 10th September.   If you would like to come along please do, all welcome – please ring the Parish Office on 2301199 to book.  Transport can be arranged.

Bumps, Babies & Toddler Groups

These groups meet, during term-term on Thursday mornings in the Parish Centre.  If you are interested in knowing more, please contact our Parish Office.


Quavers, a singing group for children from 0-4, meet in the Parish Centre each Friday morning during term-time.  Please contact the Parish Office for more information.

New!  Crotchets

Is a new group for 4-7 year olds.  They will be meeting each week in the Parish Centre.  Further information will be available shortly.

Installation of Sarah Hills as Canon for Reconciliation at Coventry Cathedral – Sunday 14 September at 4.00pm

On Sunday 14th September Sarah Hills is being installed as the Canon for Reconciliation at Coventry Cathedral at 4pm.  Sarah and her family have been members of our Church family for many years.  We are hopefully organising a coach for all who would like to attend this very special occasion.  Please sign the sheet at the back of Church if you would like to go.  Please note there will be no choral evensong on the 14th September.

Wednesday 24th September 7.30pm

Bishop Steven, the Bishop of Sheffield, will be leading an evening teaching session as part of the Joy of the Gospel course this year at St John’s. It will be a time to reflect upon the relevance and meaning of the joy of the psalms.

Sunday 28th  September. Back to church Sunday

A time for us to reach out and invite individuals back to church. Why not start thinking about who you might invite? Watch out for more details in the coming weeks.

Burngreave Food Bank

We are collecting for the Burngreave Foodbank.  Please help feed local people in crisis by donating items to the food bank.  A box is at the back of church and all dried food welcome, including powdered milk, rice, pasta, tinned meats, jam, cereals, soup, biscuits and snacks.
