Worship at St John’s is currently taking place in the Ranmoor Parish Centre.
The regular service pattern is Sundays 10.30am and 6.30pm and Wednesdays 10.30am.
CEILING REPAIR – FUNDING APPEAL - The Appeal to raise funds to support the cost of the ceiling repair has been launched. Our weekly News Sheet: Each week we produce a ‘News sheet’ that contains the service information, readings, gives the names of people to be remembered in our prayers and provides information about forthcoming events. The News Sheet is available every week on the website to download.
Faith Pictures, is a six week course developed by Church Army that will help churchgoers know how to talk about their experience of Christianity in a “natural way” with friends and family. Alison Wooding will be hosting the course on six Wednesday Evenings from 7-8.30 starting 20th June 2018 for 6 weeks in the Garden Room of the Parish Centre. There is a sign-up sheet in the corridor if you are interested in coming along.
Christian Aid - The total raised by our volunteers in Ranmoor during Christian Aid Week was £4,138 plus Gift Aid (approximately £436), a total of approximately £4,575. There is still a little more money to come in. This is a tremendous result, (£600 more than last year) so hearty congratulations to all of you who worked so hard with great commitment, delivering and collecting envelopes and giving so generously. The sums raised in Christian Aid Week nationally account for the major part of the annual income of Christian Aid. Without the income from the house to house collection, two thirds of their projects could not be undertaken. So, thank you to everyone who gave their time and money so readily.
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – Guidance about GDPR has recently been issued by the Diocese. We are required to ensure that all personal information is kept secure and that people only receive information that they have agreed to receive. We have started to make changes, a consent form is being sent out to everyone on our contacts list to ask whether they wish us to keep in touch with them. These are also available to complete in the office and the corridor of the parish centre. If you wish us to keep in touch with you, please respond to the consent form as quickly as possible.

Three Peaks Challenge – Carl Webber is walking The National Three Peaks Challenge in June which involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales, within 24 hours. The challenge includes 24 miles of hill walking separated by 2 long drives. Carl is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Research and would appreciate if you could sponsor him and his colleagues either via the just giving website https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/peseniorops3peaks or on the sponsorship form in the corridor. ‘Alan Heath will be participating in the Christian Aid Sheffield Night Hike on June 30th. The route is approximately 17 miles, starting at St. Luke’s Church, Lodge Moor then crossing the Mayfield Valley to Ringinglow, along the Houndkirk Road to Fox House, through the Longshaw estate, down Padley Gorge, along to Hathersage, then back to the start via Stanage Pole. The event is not a race, but Alan will again set himself the challenge of starting last and finishing with the official ‘first walker’! The work of Christian Aid is always important, but it is especially so at the moment due to the negative publicity surrounding some other charities and the consequent reduction in their effectiveness. Sponsor forms are available from Alan or from the Parish Office.’

Social Justice Youth Group: If you are aged between 13-17, and want to learn more about how you can be a part of God’s plan for a better world, please join us for the first of many sessions to explore how young people can make a difference to issues of social justice. More information: Youth Group

Food Bank Box: We have a food bank collection box to put food in to support the Burngreave food bank. Our food bank box is now located in the corridor of the Parish Centre.
Baby Basics: Baby Basics is a charity that supports new mothers and families who are struggling to meet the financial and practical burden of looking after a new baby. We would welcome any donations of new baby wool for the box in the office. We have volunteers who are happy to knit clothing and blankets for new born babies.

Parish Magazine out now! The latest issue of our Parish magazine, ‘Inspire’, is out now at a cost of £1. Copies are available in church or from the parish office. If you would like to have your copy posted to you then this can also be arranged. Please contact Claire in our Parish office.
Toddler & Baby Groups: Thursdays (in term time) from 10-11.30am at the Parish centre. All children from birth to pre-school welcome. New children, parents and helpers always welcome. Safe, carpeted room which is great for babies and crawlers. £1.00 per child includes a drink and a biscuit for parent/carers and children. 50p for each additional child. Future social dates for your diary:
- Saturday 14th July – Coach trip to Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. The cost is £12 per adult and £6 for children. This trip is now fully booked – please can you arrange to pay Claire in the office if you have signed up to come along.
- Afternoon tea – this date has moved to Sunday 9th September 1-3.30pm and it is now a Sunday Lunch. Tickets are on sale for £10 – either from Claire in the office or Janet Anker. The date is special in the church diary as it 130 years to the day since the church re-opened after the fire. Join us as we celebrate this special day whilst raising money for the church ceiling fund.
- NEW! Macmillan Coffee Morning – We are holding a Coffee morning in aid of Macmillan on Saturday 29th September. More details to follow.
- NEW! Theatre Trip – Kiss me Kate – 12th January at 2.15pm at the Crucible. Gillian Stanley has booked 25 seats for Kiss me Kate. The cost is £23 each. Please sign up on the sheet in the corridor if you would like to come.
What happens in our Parish Centre? The Ranmoor Parish Centre is used by a wide variety of groups, meetings and celebrations. Information about the regular users and details about the facilities available at the Centre can be found on the Parish Centre website. Groups who regularly use the Centre include yoga, Pilates, art appreciation, local history, uniformed groups and singing for children and adults. If you are interested in hiring our facilities, please get in touch.
