Welcome

church

St John’s Church is a community whose vocation is to extend to all people the same welcome that we ourselves have received from God in Christ. Our worship, enriched by our strong musical and choral traditions, is at the heart of our community’s shared life. The gospel calls us to lives of discipleship, informed by reflection and marked by care for one another, by a passion for justice, and by a commitment to the service of our local and wider community.

Surviving Winter Appeal

An estimated 70,000 people over the age of 65 are living in fuel poverty in South Yorkshire; nationally 33% of pensioners are believed to be living in fuel poverty. On average (between 2002-2009) almost 700 people over the age of 65 died every winter in South Yorkshire, the majority from largely preventable causes related to the cold conditions. The Winter Fuel Payment is a tax free payment made by the Government during November and December to people over the age of 60, to help them keep warm during the winter. It is paid regardless of how well off you are. The national "Surviving Winter Appeal" was inspired by individuals who wanted to donate their Winter Fuel Payment to support older and vulnerable people who are less fortunate than themselves. All monies donated to the appeal will go straight into the "Surviving Winter Fund" from which grants will be made to support individuals who will struggle to cope with the cold this winter. The appeal is being run nationally by the Community Foundation Network so the South Yorkshire Community Foundation will administer the appeal in our region.
