Welcome to our website
What's happening at St John's?
A warm welcome to our website. Our range of services and events mean that all are welcomed unconditionally, whatever age or background, and will find a Christian home that is growing together.
As a growing church family our aim is to reflect the Sheffield Diocesan vision; to be a part of growing a sustainable network of Christ-like, lively and diverse Christian communities in every place which are effective in making disciples and in seeking to transform our society and God’s world.
Bibles in Church- As part of our mission action planning as a church family, we are going to be purchasing new pew Bibles to be placed on every pew in church. These could then be used by anyone should they wish to whilst they visit the church. We thought a good way of purchasing these bibles is to involve as many people as possible and are asking members of the church family if you would like to purchase one or two, or more if you would like, in memory of someone who has died or in celebration of a special event e.g. the birth of a child, a baptism, a special birthday, or maybe a wedding anniversary etc. We are aiming to buy 60 identical pew bibles and each will have a dedication inside setting out who it remembers or for what celebration it has been donated. A donation of £15 is asked for each separate pew bible. So as not to miss out on this very special unique opportunity of being involved in having one of the new pew Bibles in St John’s dedicated in memory of someone or in celebration of something, please put your name and details on the sheet at the back of church. The sheet will be in church until the end of September or as soon as the 60 spaces have been filled, so don’t miss out. Please see Alison Wragg, one of our church wardens, for more details.
Crossroads Northern Bishops Mission 10th-13th Sept- On Thursday 10th September at 1.30pm there will be a special service at Sheffield Cathedral at which the Bishops will be commissioned in their mission. All are welcome at the service.
Back to Church Sunday 13th Sept. 10.30am- as part of the Northern Bishops mission why not think of someone who you would like to invite to come to church with you on the 13th? Maybe a friend, neighbour or a member of your family. On the 13th Sept during the service Arthur Roberts is also being baptised and Ian & Kate would like to invite all the members of our church family to join them and to bring a desert/side dish and be a part of their bring and share lunch after the service in the Parish centre.
New social space at St John’s – a place to encounter-we have received permission to create a new social space. This will be achieved by removing the back four pews from the north side and the long pews in the central nave. The sound desk will be moved forward and the wooden floor refurbished. Our coffee serving area will be able to expand and we will have more room to congregate and talk to each other. A copy of the plans is displayed at the back of church. We plan to undertake the work by mid-September. The PCC has agreed that we can dispose of the pews, the short pews (currently on the north side) are being re-used in the Vicarage and Parish Centre. We are pleased to let you know that the long pews have also now found new homes.
Children’s Society Boxes- The time has come for those who have been filling their Children’s society boxes all year with their loose change etc. to bring them back to church for counting. If you could bring them back to church and pass them to Gillian Stanley by Sunday 13th September. If you are interested in having a Children’s society box to raise funds for the work of the society then do let Gillian or Revd Neil know.

Canon Michael Jarratt, who was one of the previous vicars here at St John’s for many years, is taking part in the ‘sleep out’ to raise much needed funds for the Sheffield Cathedral Archer Project. The project works to help and support homeless people in Sheffield.
