Emmaus Group

As the disciples travelled along the road to Emmaus they listened to their companion and, eventually, as they shared a meal together recognised that he was none other than Christ himself. Inspired by this picture the Emmaus Group was formed in 2010. We hope that through study, listening to one another and sharing our experience of our faith we, too, may come to know Christ a little better, as we journey together.

The style of the group is normally to read a book or some study material together, reading a chapter in advance of each meeting, and then when we meet to listen to each other’s reactions to the piece, to share something of our felt experience and to pray together. Everyone is invited to contribute, if they wish – there is no one from whom we cannot learn – but the emphasis is on listening and sharing rather than on discussion or intellectual debate. No one should share more than they are quite comfortable with, and what is shared will be held in confidence by the group.

We normally meet fortnightly in the Garden Room at the Parish Centre on Wednesdays at 7.30pm. The next Emmaus group is due to commence in May.

If you wish to participate please contact Sandra Green via the Parish Office: (0114) 230 1199.
