The Songmen

,Along with our 6 Choral Scholars, 8 volunteer Songmen complete the back row of the choir, singing the alto (male and female), tenor and bass parts at Sunday services. Being a Songman is an interesting and unique opportunity for a strong musician who would like to be part of a highly celebrated choir. Because the choirs have such a wide repertoire, choral experience and good sight-reading skills are essential. As well as regular services, our singers participate in concerts, recordings and foreign tours.

We have Songmen from many different backgrounds. Some have settled in Sheffield for work reasons or are recent graduates from Sheffield’s universities. Others began their singing lives as Ranmoor Choristers and enjoyed it so much that they have rejoined on the back row. Singers commit to a Wednesday evening rehearsal and Sunday services. We occasionally have two singers sharing a Songman’s role when family and work commitments necessitate such an arrangement. In addition to the musical rewards, singers receive a warm welcome from the church community at St John’s, and the choirs have a friendly and enjoyable social life.

We presently have a vacancy for CANTORIS TENOR SONGMAN. If you would liek to have more details please contact Derek Grover via the parish office on Tel: 230 1199.
