Choral Scholarships

We offer alto (male or female), tenor and bass Choral Scholarships to university students, those wishing to take a ‘gap year’, and older teenagers who are still in secondary education.

Our scholarships depend on the generosity of a number of charitable trusts (both local and national), and the financial legacies of former Ranmoor singers and musicians. We offer a range of scholarships of varying financial value depending on age and experience. These include the John Pilling Scholarships, the John Abbott Scholarships and a Norman Barnes Scholarship. Choral Scholars receive an additional fee for singing at weddings, memorial services and other special events.

The Choral Scholars sing with the Songmen, providing a back row to one of our three soprano lines (Boy Choristers, Girl Choristers or Consort) at Sunday services during term time (on average, this is two services per week), as well as major festivals of the church’s year, concerts, commercial recordings and international tours. From September 2016, we will have vacancies for three choral scholars, an Alto/Counter Tenor, Tenor and Bass. The former post holders have now graduated from Sheffield University.
