Scholarships
Choral Scholarships
We presently have vacancies for Alto, Tenor and Bass Choral Scholars.
The Choral Scholars sing for regular Sunday morning services as part of the Gentlemen of the Choir. They also sing as part of the (adult mixed-voice) Chamber Choir, which often sings at Evensong on Sunday and for other services throughout the year. Choral Scholars are expected to attend rehearsals on Wednesday and Friday evenings.
Choral Scholars are provided with an invaluable musical experience, and are supported in their personal development.
Organ Scholarship
An Organ Scholarship is annually awarded to a talented and dedicated young organist. Usually the Organ Scholar will be a student at one of Sheffield’s two universities, further education colleges or someone wishing to take a ‘gap year’. In exceptional circumstances we may consider applications from local sixth form students.
The Organ Scholar plays an important role in the full music programme at St John’s, regularly playing for services and working with the choristers. The scholarship is ideally suited to a young person that wishes to gain valuable experience in all aspects of church music. A substantial bursary is awarded and free lessons are also available.
