The Chamber Choir
The St John's Chamber Choir is a mixed-voice choir of ladies and gentlemen. A significant number of its members are students at one of the city’s two universities and there are strong links with the University of Sheffield. The Choir rehearses on a Wednesday evening and takes a turn in singing two or three Sunday services per month. It also sings at weddings and gives regular concerts in Sheffield and further afield.
The Choir sings a wide repertoire to a high standard. Music ranges from Renaissance polyphony through the best of the Classical, Romantic and twentieth-century repertoire to contemporary works, including some written especially for the Choir.
New members are always welcome and a good number of students tend to join at the beginning of the academic year in September. As the Choir sings a wide variety of music, some experience of singing in smaller choirs and an ability to sight-read are advantageous.
The Chamber Choir has a very active social life, with regular gatherings, trips and nights out. New singers are quickly made to feel at home and part of the group and we are always pleased to hear from prospective new members.
