Priest in Charge – Revd Dr James Grenfell

James is married with three children. His wife, Joanne, is a Canon at Sheffield Cathedral where she is Diocesan Director of Ordinands and Dean of Women’s Ministry.

James studied Theology as an undergraduate at Queen’s College, Oxford followed by an MPhil in Latin American Studies and a DPhil in Theology. Following his ordination training at Westcott House, Cambridge he was ordained in 2000, and served his curacy in Kirkby, Liverpool. In July 2003, James moved to the Manor area of Sheffield to lead a team working across three churches in a large parish. During his time in Sheffield James has also obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Fundraising Management at Sheffield Hallam University. James began at St John's in March 2009.

Among James’s interests are cooking and entertaining, reading (especially contemporary fiction), art (particularly modern and contemporary), and walking.

Curate - Revd Alison Wooding

Alison has three children, two teenage daughters and a younger son. Their house is ruled by a pampered Lhasa Apso puppy called Eliza.

Before being in Ministry Alison worked as Dental Nurse for 16 years in Leeds and came to Sheffield in 2000 to study with Church Army where she gained a degree in Theology and Religious Studies. She was Commissioned as a Church Army Evangelist in 2005 and worked as part of a team on the Manor Estate in Sheffield firstly as Community Evangelist with Older People and then as Community Evangelist at St Swithun’s Church where she launched a lively ‘Messy Church’ for families and young children on the estate.

Whilst working full time she did her ordination training part time with the Yorkshire Ministry Course in Mirfield where she studied for a MA in Theology and Pastoral Studies. Alison began work at St John's following her ordination in July 2010.

Alison has a variety of interests including patchwork quilting, dress making, cake decorating, reading, camping, walking and larking about with her children and puppy.
